Career or not to Career

Generation Xers - do we buy into the world of working for the "man"? Or do we want something more fascinating, more enriching, more luxurious without the grind of the 9-5 (or in my case 8-630- ouch!)? I'm in search of the solution to my genX dilemma.

The movie the Beach was a great encapsulation of what life could be like if there isn't a pressing need for the biweekly paycheck. What fun things could we do? I know for a fact that I have so many items in my to do list that it could take a while to get to a steady state of boredom. Classes to take, people to see, sports to play and house to clean! Think about all those pet projects you never started. With some freedom you could.

Where do we find this balance? How do we exit the freeway of life to smell the roses? Some have done it. So if you have, tell me how do you start the signal 100 ft away so I can zoom through.

Till the next blog...

When you're jetlagged at 3:12 AM

One day my friend and I were chatting about blogs and how Facebook, Twitter, Google plus have consumed us, taking over the world. Does the blog no longer exist? I think it does because blogs have a significance that status updates don't have. It is it's own entity- literary pieces of insignificance that seem significant at the time. Or even perhaps noteworthy ideas or captured thoughts that pass our minds while crammed in a subway train or sitting in the toll line to cross the bridge. In my case, the random web searching and decision to revitalize one of my personal blogs that has been dormant for over three years. All thanks to mild jet-lagged at 3 o'clock in the morning. Insignificant but yet significant at the time. Don't get me wrong Facebook Twitter and Google plus all had its place. In fact Google plus does have a very very well oiled machine that was maybe even born out of the blogger.com original idea with a little bit of Facebook and Twitter sprinkled in between.

We as a society of people, evolve to become so shortly focused that we can only recognize 120 characters before we lose the attention of the reader! I'm sure all of our predecessors and old literary scholars would balk at the idea that reading would cause us to be bored out of our mind and move on before getting past the first paragraph.  Nonetheless it's highly significant that we appreciate the blog hence has driven the revitalization of the daily-M. Not because my random blurbs are at all significant as I stated, quite insignificant in fact!

I think of it as a way to get into the mind of the writer (me) to understand the sense of what's going on in their (my) head at that very precise moment. I equated it to a photographer and how they capture an image that by no means no one else would ever see if you were not walking in that person's shoes seeing at that exact moment . Captured silent and still for that moment before being then lost forever time . These random thoughts, these moments of insignificance in the big picture of life become so significant. Mental captures lost in time. Memory that is stored matter, connectivity of our neurons who really knows. But written down on paper, store forever  At any time these captures can be call back up by our children's children to see what life was like even in the most insignificant moments of life that then can become so significant; shaping who we are and maybe contributing in some way to this world.

i'm not a collector

so i was hanging out in utah trying to figure out what to take home as a souvenir. we wandered around searching for gifts for people and for ourselves. i just couldn't think of anything i needed or wanted (same problem during christmas or other gift bearing activities). im not much of a cute trinket person, not a shot glass person, not into the tshirts anymore, no need for mugs ... i was thinking of any collections i had that i could contribute to to remember the different places or events or travels and none came to mind. then i saw this and i really wanted it and it fit in.

Bowling Pin Buster!

this deserved a double post- xanga and blogger!

back in the day of DNA, i bowled in the company bowling league. during that time i switched from a straight ball to one with spin. it served me well as i ended up winning my first ever trophy! well i broke my first nice bowling ball- it cracked like an equator. i just found it in the closet like that. after 2+ years of bowling ball distress using my straight ball i got from my dad in 10th grade, i took my bday and xmas gift money and bought myself my new bowling ball.

today my brother and i bonded over bowling. seems like we do this pretty well. who would have thought. we are a bowling kinda family. well here were the results of game 3. i bowled my best game EVER!

the other day i was bored and took a bunch of pics of myself.. again here's one where i think i look pretty silly.

yay!

Or you could just walk away.

Someone falls to pieces, sleeping all alone
Someone kills the pain, spinning in the silence
To finally drift away

Someone gets excited
In a chapel yard and catches a bouquet
Another lays a dozen, white roses on a grave

Yeah and to be yourself is all that you can do
Hey, to be yourself is all that you can do

Someone finds salvation in everyone, another only pain
Someone tries to hide himself, down inside himself he prays
Someone swears his true love until the end of time
Another runs away, separate or united, healthy or insane

And to be yourself is all that you can do, yeah
(All that you can do)
To be yourself is all that you can do
(All that you can do)

To be yourself is all that you can do
(All that you can do)
Hey, be yourself is all that you can do

Even when you've paid enough
Been pulled apart or been held up
Every single memory of the good or bad
Faces of luck

Don't lose any sleep tonight
I'm sure everything will end up alright
You may win or lose

But to be yourself is all that you can do, yeah
To be yourself is all that you can do

Oh, to be yourself is all that you can do
(All that you can do)
Hey, to be yourself is all that you can do
(All that you can do)

To be yourself is all that you can
Be yourself is all that you can
Be yourself is all that you can do
